Welcome to the magnificent Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as we prepare for an exciting clash. Our team arrived earlier, undoubtedly with the fresh memory of a recent derby victory fueling them. With a win today, we move a step closer to silverware, as the Carabao Cup quarterfinal kicks off in under an hour. Joining me here is Ben Thornley. Ben, how are you feeling about this one?
Very excited, mainly because this is a fantastic stadium. Tottenham have struggled a bit at home this season, performing better on the road. Our players must be full of confidence after that derby win. The energy and delight are still evident in the team and among the fans. A derby win is always special, especially when fully deserved.
A victory tonight would signify that we’re starting to challenge teams above us, building momentum into a busy January. Our last Carabao Cup encounter with Spurs was in the 2009-2010 season, a 2-0 win at this stage, thanks to a Darren Gibson brace.
We’ve enjoyed this competition recently, and there’s no reason we can’t do it again. Eric ten Hag won a trophy in his first season here, and I’m sure Ruben Amarim aims to do the same. Tottenham are a formidable side when they perform, but like us, they’ve been inconsistent this season.
Winning the Carabao Cup a couple of seasons ago was memorable, and these players remember that success. Some might say it’s not the most prestigious trophy, but it’s still silverware, and it could be significant for Ruben Amarim as he builds his legacy here.
This competition helps build momentum that carries into other competitions, and that’s what Ruben will aim for. Now, let’s head to the studio.
Great stuff, Zara and Ben. Thanks very much. Welcome to our festive studio today, bringing Christmas cheer after that Derby Day victory. With us are Wes Brown and Phil Bardsley, our former defenders. What a week it’s been for United fans everywhere after that brilliant result against City.
It was a fantastic game with a brilliant second half performance. We need to follow that up with a big performance against Spurs tonight. There was noticeable improvement, with players executing the manager’s game plan even when behind.
Spurs are a tough opponent, especially at home. They’ve had some excellent players over the years, but I think our recent form and confidence can give us the edge. Let’s see our starting lineup, which has a few changes, including Alai Bayendere replacing Onana. Lindelof starts, and Erikson joins the midfield. Anthony and Bruno are behind Holand in attack.
It’s good to see rotation, giving opportunities to players like Yoro and Erikson. Anthony has a chance to shine, playing just behind the striker. The bench is strong, including Sunday’s match-winner Amad and Garnacho’s return.
Spurs have their injury issues, with a much-changed defense. Their strength lies in their attack with Son, Madison, and Kulusevski. It’s a potent front four.
Marcus Rashford isn’t in the squad, but Ruben Amarim has said he wants Marcus to return as the best version of himself. Marcus is still a key player, and we hope to see him back soon.
We’re looking forward to this match. Let’s get back to Tottenham for more with Ben and Zara.
Thanks, guys. Let’s talk about our attacking lineup tonight. Rasmus Holand has been building momentum in recent games. His work rate and ability to hold up play have been impressive. If the creativity flows tonight, it could be a successful outing.
Anthony and Bruno Fernandez are crucial for providing the service Holand needs. Their creativity and involvement are vital. Spurs have a strong lineup, but Holand’s physicality can be a key factor against their makeshift defense.
We expect an aggressive style, similar to the second half against Pilzen. Spurs have a strong team, but our players are ready to take on the challenge.
