My Credit Card Predictions For 2025…
what will happen in the US credit card space in 2025 well I know we are a couple of weeks into 2025 now but here is my prediction video and my first prediction is the AMX Platinum annual fee will be going up to $995 well no that was a joke but we will likely see new benefits on MX cards and that might be accompanied by a raising annual fee on some and we’ll see perhaps City lounges opening up and the built card finally offering points on mortgage payments hey credit Warriors welcome to the show my name is Ben Hedges aka the credit shuu and on this channel I cover Us credit cards Financial products and luxury travel helping you get the maximum value out of your money if you like the sound of that do subscribe in this video we are going to talk about updates and new credit cards that I believe will come out in 2025 some of these are confirmed and some are more speculative and this video is brought to you by rocket money but more on that later so let’s get started with a new black [Music] card well there’s only one black card and no it ain’t this one no the only real black card is the anex Centurion but other companies certainly want to get in on the Mystique of a black card and Alaska Airlines is launching a new premium card this year and the card graphic on their landing page shows a card that looks very black it’s like how much more black could this be and the answer is none so anyway this new black or PR premium card is coming out this summer there was a promotion running at the end of last year where if you joined the wait list for this card you would get 500 Alaska miles after that promotion period closed and then another 5,000 Miles when you actually get approved for the card once they open applications for those that pre-registered and that is on top of whatever welcome bonus is available when it launches well if you join the wait list those 500 Alaska miles should have posted in your account as of now actually as of January 11th then the blog view from the wing actually had some more details on this card that I didn’t talk about in my original video on it so we know that it’ll have a $395 annual fee and earn three points per dollar on foreign transactions and dining but also Alaska’s vice president of loyalty alliances and sales told the author about the companion certificates that are going to be offered the global companion award certificates will be usable on any Alaska Airlines Redemption that means partner Awards and for any class of service card holders will receive one certificate for having the card and can receive a second certificate earned from spend each year however there will be mileage caps on these Awards the certificate earned via spend will have a higher mileage cap card holders will be able to top up the companion award certificates with additional miles above the Caps so it sounds like the mileage certificate that you get each year just for having the card could be like a short Hall flight like New York to DC and economy or something you know they would cap the mileage at that level then if there’s another mileage certificate that you can get through spending each year say spend $20,000 and get a mileage certificate perhaps that’s enough for New York to LA in economy round trip maybe anyway it looks like a pretty cool card and we’ll see what happens in the summer next AMX green refresh now this one is speculation but with good evidence the AMX green just lost one of its benefits the $100 Lounge buddy credit which the card used to have is gone as of January 13th now the reason I think we will see a refresh in 2025 is that nothing has replaced the lounge buddy credit that the Green Card just lost so offsetting the annual fee now we only have the Clear Credit which is $199 the annual fee is $50 so that’s still pays for it plus $49 but it used to be almost $300 in value okay an extra 100 bucks so I’m guessing this card will get something new in 2025 the last time it was upgraded was in 2022 when the Clear Credit was was increased from $100 to $189 covering the whole cost of clear and then again later to $199 when the cost of clear went up and that was actually only a small refresh the last major Refresh on the green card was in 2019 that’s when they changed it to the cooler looking design so I think it is highly possible that they could do something with the green card this year even if it’s just finding a new credit to replace the lounge budy credit but what do you think they should replace it with leave your comments below all right let’s move on to another rumored AMX card refresh but first I know you guys are watching this because you want to get the most out of the money that you spend and that’s why I have partnered with rocket money an easy to ous app that helps you save more and manage your money better I personally use rocket money to monitor my monthly budget find wasteful spending and monitor my net worth rocket money shows you your transactions across all of your bank accounts and credit cards you can then set budgets for individual categories for example my budget for the dining category is $300 per month I do normally keep to it or close to it except in December where I spent double and in January I’ve already spent the whole dining budget but um you know we just had Christmas and New Year and then I went on a ski trip in early January so I blame it on that then we have the grocery budget and I’m normally really good at keeping under this one look I’m under that line almost every month rocket money offers a really easy way to review recent transactions to find wasteful spending and for month bills like subscriptions or your internet provider Etc rocket money can actually negotiate to lower those bills on your behalf they have a 90% success rate and all it takes is a couple of TAPS same is true for canceling subscriptions with just a couple of TAPS in their app which I have also done for example with this Bloomberg subscription and it really works here’s an email I received a few days later saying my Bloomberg subscription was really canceled by rocket money on my behalf and these two things will help you lower your monthly spending and keep keep within budget even more so take control of your finances today go to Rocket money.com sben to get started for [Music] free so the AMX business Platinum is another one that is set to lose a load of credits this year you can see on the Dell credit and the Adobe credit we now have an end date of June 30th 2025 the Dell credit is $200 semiannually so twice a year for a total of $400 and the Adobe one is $150 per year so that’s $550 in value that the card is losing now AMX did just add a $200 Hilton credit dished out in $50 per quarter increments I know coupon book style but that doesn’t really make up for $550 in value that you’re losing annually when those two other credits come to an end at the end of June so maybe they’ll add a $7 per month dunking donuts credit it sounds like a joke but that’s actually what they just did on the AMX gold card when they brought in the new white gold refresh so maybe they’ll come out with a white Platinum no that doesn’t really work okay PL platinum’s kind of white anyway all right moving on the chase Palm card so this one comes from a rumor that is linked to the so-called Chase project emerald and there was supposed to be a new personal and new premium business card launched at the end of 2024 that’s according to rumors but this obviously didn’t happen however the same guy who provided the original information on this to doctor of credit who uses the pseudonym Tyler Duran came back with some more detailed information near the end of October saying that there would be a new business card called the Palm card launched in March 2025 with a 150,000 chase points welcome bonus for spending $155,000 and it would rival the MX platinum and be kind of like the business version of the sapphire Reserve which is kind of dumb because why don’t they just call it the ink Reserve you know since they already have the ink line of cards which is sort of the business version of what the sapphire and freedom cards are on the personal side anyway the Palm card is supposedly coming out in March or maybe they’ll move it back to April and it’ll come out on Palm Sunday okay that was a joke let’s move on and we have some predictions now about City first a new card or should I say the return of an old card the city strata Prestige or strata Elite so City now has its strata branded cards okay they re-released the City premiere as the strata Premiere in May 2024 but people have now turned their attention to the city Prestige which was discontinued you cannot apply for it right now although people who have it already our grandfather in the card was known for its fourth night free benefit at hotels which was devalued a bit in recent years because they limited it to twice per year but that could still save you hundreds or even over $1,000 depending where you use it but anyway applications for the city Prestige were closed in 2021 but it is believed that City will be bringing the prestige back in 2025 possibly not calling it strata Prestige but instead City strata Elite which they already own the trademark for and thus City will once again have a premium credit card that earns city thank you points the likelihood of it coming back in 2025 is backed up even more by this strata lounges that’s right City appears to be preparing to get into the lounge game in 2025 with a trademark they filed back in October 2024 for the strata lounge and if you have a branded Lounge then you need a premium credit card that people can use to access it however we don’t really know what this trademark is for view from the wing points out that city does already have one small Lounge at Jakarta airport in Indonesia here are some very blurry photos of it from Lounge buddy and it could just be a rebranding of that one Lounge all right but that would be very disappointing though and I would be much more inclined to think that they are going to compete with the AMX Centurion lounge and Chase Sapphire lounge with their own Lounge now we really don’t have any details other than the name at this stage but since City issues American Airlines cards just taking a wild guess they could put their first strata lounges at AA hubs kind of like how AMX often puts their Centurion Lounge at Delta hubs and even in the terminal that Delta flies from from within those airports so for AA that would be one of the airports on screen now but it really depends on what space is available and airport lounges do take a relatively long time because you’re signing a lease for a piece of real estate and then you’re designing and building out the lounge which all could take over a year or more so hopefully we will see something in 2025 but don’t hold your breath however the prestige card coming back first which will then drum up interest in the lounge once it launches I think is quite likely all right now for my final credit card prediction for 2025 and that is earn built points on mortgage payments built has earned a reputation as a revolutionary payment system and credit card that lets you earn points on rent payments that can be transferred to a load of partner Airlines and hotels just like other Banks like Chase and AMX or you could use them on Amazon at 0.7 cents per point if you’re an idiot anyway what is new for 2025 is that they have announced that they will be moving into the mortgage space and here is what they say about that in an email that they sent out to members on December 3rd we’ll announce the first phase of plans in the mortgage space creating a whole new category of value for homeowners whether you’re making monthly payments or refinancing you’ll soon be able to earn points on your mortgage payments so this benefit is going live sometime in 2025 it sounds like it’s going to be done in stages from what they said how is it going to work well we don’t know exactly but with rent you can pay any landlord and they get paid either through the built portal if they’re signed up to it or if they’re not signed up to it you pay through the built portal and then built sends a check on your behalf I assume this would be the same with mortgage issuers built would be sending out checks on your behalf to pay your mortgage and with rent it’s limited to one payment per month and a limit of 100,000 points earned per year thus I’m guessing with mortgage payments it will be something similar so look out for news of this one coming probably in spring or summer of 2025 and that’s where I’m going to leave it today guys leave a comments below which 2025 predictions did I miss and which are you most excited about and if you want to take control of your finances get started today with rocket money down in the links below please subscribe if you’re new
